In this position...

Chosen candidate will lead topology, topography, gage, and shape optimization and parametric on a variety of different components for reduce cost and/or weight.

Position will utilize emerging optimization software to more efficiently design chassis components and systems. Work with all sections of Chassis (suspension and steering) and interface with program management teams, suppliers, testing activities, manufacturing, and vehicle teams to automate current methods and employ optimization software to deliver optimized results by using design of experiments (DOEs), optimization algorithms, response surface models (RSMs) and neural networks. Run topology optimization, topography optimization, gage optimization, and shape optimization on a variety of different Chassis components to reduce cost and weight. Drive efficient product and system designs through institutionalizing Optimization within Chassis. Support the parametric CAD to CAE template start part automation strategy for Chassis Engineering. Help create CAD parametric template models that are fully connected to CAE templates for analysis (strength and fatigue) and then loop them with optimization software to either populate an entire trade space, run an optimization, or create analytical engines. Research, identify and develop the leading software tools and methods available to improve Ford designs and bring them to Ford. Participate in optimization tool implementation for Chassis Engineering. Develop new CAE techniques, analysis procedures, and tools to improve process robustness, fidelity, and simulation execution speed.

What you'll do...

Lead topology, topography, gage, and shape optimization on a variety of different components for reduce cost and/or weight.

Responsible for the automation of methods and optimization of components, subsystems, and systems to meet performance requirements while minimizing mass, cost, and complexity.

Support creation of CAD parametric template models, that are fully connected to CAE templates for analysis and then loop them with optimization software to either populate an entire trade space, run an optimization, or create analytical engines.

Continuously research, identify, and develop the leading automation/optimization software tools and methods to improve product designs.

Lead the development of new techniques, analysis procedures, and tools to improve predictions, fidelity, and speed of simulation.

Support optimization tool implementation for Underbody Systems Engineering.

You'll have...

M.S. in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or academic equivalent, in a closely related technical discipline.

Minimum 10 years automotive industry experience.

Minimum 5 years of CAE experience.

Minimum 3 years optimization experience.

Even better, you may have...

Ph. D in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or academic equivalent, in a closely related technical discipline is preferred.

Expertise in the following optimization tools: HEEDs, ModeFRONTIER, Optistruct, Tosca, Inspire, ANSYS.

Extensive knowledge in component and system CAE.

Knowledge in SIMULIA 3DEXPERIENCE preferred.
