Lead Software Engineer and Technical Lead for the Electric Vehicle (EV) product line. The Super Anchor Engineer is responsible for setting the technical direction and implementation strategy to deliver high quality features and products that support Ford Motor Company Enterprise Connectivity initiatives. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) Embedded Technology team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of embedded software solutions for our EV charging infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of electric vehicle technology and contribute to the advancement of sustainable transportation. The Super Anchor Engineer will also be responsible for mentoring and coaching of more junior level engineers

This position includes the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of embedded software for EV charging stations, including firmware development and system integration.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware engineers, and product managers, to define software requirements and ensure alignment with overall product objectives.

  • Develop and maintain embedded software components, drivers, and protocols to support communication interfaces, such as CAN, Ethernet, and wireless technologies.

  • Optimize software performance, reliability, and security through code reviews, debugging, profiling, and testing methodologies.

  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and standards to enhance the functionality and efficiency of EVSE embedded systems.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment, adhering to established coding standards and best practices.

  • Support product certification and compliance activities, including safety standards (e.g., UL, IEC), regulatory requirements, and industry protocols (e.g., OCPP).

  • Lead the creation and implementation of embedded software solutions to meet business and infrastructure needs (based on functional/nonfunctional requirements).

  • Coordinate with application architects to validate solution designs with a focus on the reliability and stability of the product.

  • Facilitate cross-team technical knowledge sharing forums (e.g. Anchor Engineer meetings, EV Common Libraries, etc.,).

  • Experience in integrated testing across the entire system ecosystem to ensure end-to-end product quality.

  • Provide input on product discovery, estimation, planning and prioritization.

  • Develop solutions with architects to ensure interoperability of interfacing external and internal systems and develop prototypes to validate.

  • Interact with external and internal technical peers (Product Managers, Product Designers, Software Engineers, Architects, and vendors).

  • Focus on the security of the EV services and ensure proper tooling is in place to fix vulnerabilities and detect threats.

  • Design and implement security protocols to protect vehicle/iOT data and ensure the privacy and safety of users.

  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to integrate software solutions with vehicle systems and connected ecosystem.

  • Drive innovation in connected vehicle technologies, exploring advancements in areas such as Intelligent Energy Management.

  • Optimize connected smart device software for performance, reliability, and scalability while considering the constraints of connected IOT systems.

  • Participate in the code review process, ensuring adherence to coding standards and high-quality software delivery.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues and deliver solutions that enhance the user experience

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and ensure seamless integration with vehicle systems.

  • Drive the implementation of advanced vehicle telematics and connectivity features, leveraging industry standards and best practices.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Foster mature software delivery processes.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends industry standards and regulatory requirements in Private Home Charging, and contribute to the company's long-term technology roadmap.

  • Experience with industry standard development environment, technologies, tools and techniques including Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery techniques.

  • Command of agile principles, value, best practices, and tools. Practical experience in all systems life cycle phases.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills.

  • Ability and willingness to collaborate in the software development community on teams of varying sizes to obtain common goal.

Technologies/Area of Expertise :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • 8+ years of professional experience in embedded software development, preferably in the automotive, renewable energy, or IoT industries.

  • Expertise in programming languages such as C, C++, and assembly language for embedded systems.

  • Proficiency in embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS), device drivers, and hardware abstraction layers (HAL).

  • Strong understanding of communication protocols and standards, including CAN, Ethernet, Modbus, Websocket, etc.,.

  • Experience with embedded security principles, cryptography, and secure boot mechanisms.

  • Familiarity with software development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present technical concepts to stakeholders.

  • Passion for sustainability, clean energy, and electric vehicle technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and automotive networking standards (e.g., AUTOSAR, ISO 26262).

  • Experience with EV charging protocols and standards, such as OCPP, ISO 15118, and CHAdeMO.

  • Knowledge of power electronics, control systems, and battery management systems (BMS).

  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

  • Contributions to open-source projects or participation in relevant industry forums and communities.

Advanced degree (e.g., PhD) or professional certifications in relevant fields
