Ford Motor Company Director - Enterprise data platform engineering in Chennai, India
The position will drive and define the Enterprise Data Platform engineering strategy to build solutions to support the enterprise, develop organizational, operational, delivery and governance models as well as facilitate the delivery of key business initiatives.
She/he will liaise between multi-disciplinary customers and partners including IT, business, software engineers and data scientists.
The Director Platform Engineering will be focused on problem solving to accelerate and lead the adoption of the data platform through best practices and optimization of the cloud solutions. This is a hands-on leadership position. At times, the incumbent will need to design, develop, integrate solutions; but, the primary responsibility for writing code and building data driven products will lie within the team. Cloud native tech stack knowledge and expertise is essential. The Director Platform Engineering will be responsible for leading the organization as well as focusing on continuous development through training and up-skilling. The Director will collaborate with both business and technical teams to define data platform engineering best practices, innovation, improvement, standards and templates. This leader will also ensure the team is appropriately sized, skilled and has capacity for the initiatives and projects.
The position reports to the Senior Director of Enterprise Data Platform and will be based in Chennai, India.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Establish a clear vision and strategy for the Enterprise Data platform. Collaborating with the global team, including internal and external stakeholders.
Enable business growth by providing end-to-end data platform services, minimizing data risks and empowering intelligent data-driven decision-making in everything we do.
Build a high performing organization that embraces new ways of working to deliver data driven business value using modern cloud technologies and tools, open platforms, best practices and fully automated software delivery
Drive the execution of new digital platforms in partnership with the customer experience, marketing, operations, and information technology team and collaborate with external partners to enable a streamlined customer experience
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate the execution of the digital strategies through effective oversight, prioritization, and resource allocation
Negotiate, nurture, and grow relationships with larger data platforms to grow existing revenue for FORD.
Identify opportunities to differentiate and transform digital solutions, develop business case(s) to support new digital products and experiences, and indirectly oversee cross-functional teams accountable for the digital experience delivery and KPI (key performance indicator) definitions
Accountable for the evolution and delivery of Self-service platform experiences, technology and products to include identifying opportunities to transform digital solutions and the delivery of existing services and capabilities, and leading experience design (XD), user design experience (UX) and user interface design (UI)
Fluency with distributed and cloud environments and a deep understanding of how to balance computational considerations with theoretical properties. Detailed knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tooling for large-scale data engineering efforts and deployments is highly preferred.

Minimum 8 years of work experience with a Master's degree or 10 years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree, Hands-On Data Platform Engineering Experience
Full Stack Data Platform Engineering Service Based Architecture Competency in a public cloud – Google, MS Azure, AWS
Highly Proficient in Python, Java, Rust, or Go (or similar)
Extensive knowledge in data platform engineering and frameworks including design, development and implementation of highly complex systems and services
Extensive knowledge in platform engineering and architecture including design, development and implementation of cloud based data platforms.
Cloud native technologist
Deep understanding of data service ecosystems including data warehousing, lakes, metadata, meshes, fabrics, Marketing, Customer and AI/ML use cases.
User experience advocacy through empathetic stakeholder relationship.
Effective Communication both internally (with team members) and externally (with stakeholders)
Good understanding of the Automobile industry, competitors, and evolving technologies is desirable.
Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams.
Cloud native technologist (ideally GCP)
Deep understanding of platform service ecosystem and architectures
Extensive knowledge and understanding of GCP offerings, bundled services, especially those associated with data platform operations and architecture
Experience with re-coding, re-developing and optimizing data platform capabilities with and for data science and analytical workflows and products
Platform Compliance with Data Governance concepts including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), CCPA (California Consumer Protection Act), PoLP and how these can impact technical architecture
