Ford Motor Company Technical Anchor Lead in Chennai, India

Software Engineer – Observability for Platform Engineering at Ford Motor Company plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the reliability, scalability, and performance of our services. You will work closely with our development teams to build and maintain large-scale, distributed systems and ensure our products meet our high standards for availability and user experience.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage monitoring solutions in Java using monitoring tools (DataDog, Open Telemetry) to ensure visibility and proactive issue detection across our platforms.

  • Develop Solutions on GCP infrastructure, optimizing performance, and scaling resources to meet demand.

  • Collaborate with development teams to enhance system reliability and performance, applying a software engineering mindset to system administration tasks.

  • Develop and maintain automated solutions for operational aspects such as on-call monitoring, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, and production environments.

  • Design, code, and review software and system changes with an emphasis on stability and scalability using Java and other relevant technologies.

  • Manage and scale our Google Cloud Platform services, ensuring data integrity and availability.

  • Engage with front-end technologies, such as React, as required to understand the full stack and contribute to development or troubleshooting.

  • Participate in post-mortem analysis and create preventative measures for future incidents.

  • Collaborate with multi-skilled teams working on commercial/fleet software solutions

The minimum qualifications we seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 8+ years of overall experience with 3+ years of relevant experience on

  • Experience in object oriented programming languages such as Java/ Kotlin /JavaScript or TypeScript

  • Experience managing and optimizing modern databases (Relational and non-relational)

  • Continuous integration/continuous delivery tools and pipelines, such as: (Jenkins, Terraform, SonarQube, Maven, Gradle, Harness, Apigee X)

  • Hands-on Observability development experience including log monitoring, metrics collection using any of popular monitoring tools (DataDog, Open Telemetry, Garfana, DynaTrace, New Relic, Splunk, and HoneyComb)

  • 1+ years of experience developing and deploying to cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.

  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams across multiple geographic regions.

  • Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement

  • Nurture engineer growth through mentorship

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Our preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field

  • 2+ Years of experience in Enterprise Application Development, Mobile application, Microservices.

  • Programming skills knowledge, with a good understanding of software development best practices.

  • Familiarity with front-end development frameworks, particularly React.

  • Strong experience with monitoring and observability systems/tools, particularly Datadog and OpenTelemetry.

  • Experience measuring the Golden Signals and DORA metrics.

  • Good understanding of SLA/SLI/SLO and the ability to implement using Observability tools.

  • Prior experience working alongside an engineering team to collect, aggregate and visualize insights into a complicated technical product.

  • Proficient with cloud services, with a strong preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience.

  • Experience with fully automating CI/CD pipelines end-to-end, from code commits to production, such as: (Jenkins or Tekton)

  • Infrastructure provisioning and management (e.g. Terraform)

  • Experience with CA Agile Central (Rally), backlogs, iterations, user stories, or similar Agile Tools Highly effective in working with other technical specialists, Product Managers, UI/UX Designers and business partners

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when solving unexpected problems
