Ford Motor Company Engineering Specialist, Controls (Body Shop) in Chicago, Illinois

In this position...

Use FIS Plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation, review and follow up automation project's and installations

Schedule: This role will be assigned to a shift upon hire. Employee may be assigned to a 12-hour day or 12-hour night shift (no swing shifts) and the shift rotates from day to night every few months. Also a 5x8 schedule could be assigned, depending on the manpower distribution.

What you'll do...

  • Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation problems

  • Update program backups for automation

  • Program new installations , rebalances ,new automation tooling and conveyor systems

  • Reprogram automation for engineering changes and improvements

  • Independently troubleshoot all BODY Area equipment and continuously evaluate equipment for improvement for quality and delivery

You'll have...

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience with 2 - 3+ years of experience related to Robotic programming in a manufacturing environment

  • 3+ years of controls engineering experience

  • 3+years of experience in the following areas:

  • PLC logic and controls Allen Bradley RS Logixs/Studio Versions 15-31.

  • Very sufficient in Factory Talk (Panel View)

  • Weld Timers: Bosch and WTC

  • 3+ years of experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Even better, you may have...

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Experience in the following areas:

  • Fanuc and Kawasaki Robot experience

  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience

  • Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping

  • DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology experience

  • Visual Factory Management

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including 4Ds, FMEAs, and DMAICs

  • Familiarity with PowerFlex VFDs, Mov/Mot/MoviFit Armor starts, encoders, network/Ethernet controls

  • Strong understanding of conveyors system programming, in addition to networking understanding, DH+, Ethernet, remote IO

  • Setting up inputs and outputs for the robots and devices on the robot, including setting node addresses, dip switches, and rotary dip switches.

  • Sifting through and debugging the logic.

  • Teaching and verifying zones/path segments for the robots. This also involved auto debugging and ramping the robot(s) up to 100% and getting them in the cycle time that the customer needed without any crashes or mishaps.

  • Setting up all the devices on the end of the robot, whether it’s a material handler, servo gun, or pneumatic gun, etc. Programming paths and understanding the zones, accuracies, or continuous. (installation)

  • Setting up software limits and hard stop, torquing the end effectors down (shimming the end effector and fixtures for the robot), and tightening the dress package up.

  • Servicing the robot/Production support. Figuring out faults and fixing them. Changing weld schedules or pressures to tracing down a bad wire to replace.

  • Supporting the line after programming and getting it up and running. (Production Support/Servicing)

This position is a range of salary grades 7 and 8.
