Chassis Controls Engineer

Job Description & Qualifications:

Do you have an interest in vehicle dynamics and control systems? Here is an opportunity to develop the latest Chassis controls technologies. These Ford Chassis Controls positions involve a mix of theory, computer simulation, and in-vehicle testing. Examples of technologies we have delivered include Trailer Backup Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Roll Stability Control, Trail Control and many more. Upcoming projects will continue to push the envelope on Driver Assistance and Autonomous Vehicle Technologies!


  • Innovate new Chassis control or Driver Assistance features

  • Develop control algorithms using MATLAB and Simulink Models

  • Develop specifications and design verification plans for control systems and features

  • Develop and maintain dynamics models for algorithm development and stability analysis

  • Work closely with Ford engineers and Tier-1 suppliers to develop feature interface requirements

  • Develop simulation environments and tools for algorithm development and calibration

  • Perform software functional validation (MIL/SIL testing) and work closely with HIL test engineers

  • Develop HIL labs for bench testing

  • Perform control calibration and vehicle testing

  • Conduct Functional Safety analysis and implement actions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related degree

  • 2 years of controls system and state machine development experience or equivalent educational background

  • Demonstrated experience in Matlab/Simulink

  • Experience applying Systems Engineering

  • Familiarity with Vector CANAPE and TargetLink

  • Troubleshooting experience with electromechanical systems

  • Experience developing and executing test plans

  • Experience applying engineering disciplines for failure mode avoidance

  • Experience with vehicle level simulation products (Carsim, Carmaker, ADAMS, etc)

  • Demonstrated proficiency with CAN communication and databases

  • Experience developing software requirements

  • Familiarity with ISO-26262

  • Good communications and project management skills

  • Strong leadership skills, passion for quality, passion to improve customer satisfaction

  • Good team work skills
