Ford Motor Company’s Electrified Powertrain Systems Engineering team is in the exciting and rapidly-advancing area of vehicle electrification. Our organization is growing and is in search of outstanding individuals to help shape the direction our next generation of hybrid and electric powertrains.
Successful applicants will work closely with various electrification departments and cross-functional organizations to develop architecture and requirements for future programs while assessing cutting edge technologies to support the roll out of a best in industry electrified vehicle product portfolio.

Define mechanical and electrical architecture for hybrid electric powertrains.
Convert vehicle targets into powertrain system functional requirements for battery, electric motors, transmission, driveline, and engine and gain consensus among affected subsystem owners on controls and hardware compatibility.
Convert powertrain operating conditions into requirements for support systems (e. g. cooling system, high voltage and low voltage electrical systems, regenerative brake system, and feature control systems), and gain consensus among affected subsystem owners on controls and hardware compatibility.
Assess powertrain system capability to meet requirements, and perform trade-off studies to optimize attribute balance.
Analyze behavior of hybrid and electric powertrains in various vehicle use case scenarios.
Analyze kinematics of hybrid and electric drivetrains.
Analyze mechanical and electric power flow in hybrid and electric powertrains.
Lead / support milestone reviews of the system definition, requirements, and capability (assessment against the requirements).
Work closely with our Research and global teams to evaluate cost and benefits of new technologies, evaluate their impact on system functions and error states, and define related subsystem requirements to integrate the technologies into the vehicle.
Lead implementation of project tasks to meet project timelines.
Create written summaries of projects and lead project reviews with affected teams.
Develop actions addressing lessons learned from previous programs.
Create and publish systems documentation including architecture and functional diagrams.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
2+ years of engineering work experience
1+ years of automotive work experience
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
Graduate Certificate in Vehicle Electrification
8+ years of engineering work experience
Knowledge of hybrid system and subsystem operating principles
Knowledge of powertrain controls and calibration
Knowledge of automotive powertrain development processes
Knowledge of ISO 26262 principles and practice
Experience developing hybrid component or system requirements
Ability to create and verify mathematical models using commonly-available modeling software
Skilled in clearly and concisely communicating technical information in both verbal and written form
Demonstrated technical experience in systems engineering for powertrain
