Ford Motor Company Indirect Tax Manager in Dearborn, Michigan

The Indirect Tax Manager will play an integral role in the operation, management, and direction of outside service providers and both remote and co-located service teams in support of Ford’s North American indirect tax compliance function, which includes US sales, use tax, motor fuel and other US Federal and state excise taxes, Canadian federal and provincial goods and services taxes and provincial sales taxes, and Mexican value-added taxes.

In this position…

The Indirect Tax Manager will have a portfolio of indirect tax reporting, controversy, transaction support, and business advisory work streams for Ford's North American reporting entities, support for global SAP deployment and production and and their integration with Vertex, Ford's global tax engine, and development of and operational support for end-to-end solutions concerning North American indirect taxes for new business projects and activities.

This will be a hybrid role out of Dearborn, MI (relocation package available).

What you'll do…

  • Lead, mentor, and develop indirect tax team members in indirect tax compliance, research, and tax automation recurring and project work.

  • Participate in design, build, operation and maintenance of systematic, analytical, and reporting solutions in Vertex on Demand and Vertex TPE in support of North American indirect tax compliance needs.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to skill teams and business development project teams on indirect tax-related issues and interests.

  • Identify and document business, functional and technical requirements to support new business initiatives (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) and scope effects on existing transaction tax calculation processes and systems.

  • Monitor, identify, and resolve tax system and reporting issues.

You'll have…

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of tax-related work experience, preferably with increasing responsibility.

  • 7+ years of indirect tax experience, preferably with manufacturing experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in tax engine (Vertex, TR-OSI, Avalara, or similar), with a preference for development/configuration experience in tax engine.

Even better if you have…

  • Advanced knowledge of integrating systems and business capabilities within an enterprise.

  • Advanced knowledge of handling a delivery portfolio of enterprise projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of identifying and documenting business, functional, and technical requirements.

  • MST, MBA, JD, or CMI-Sales Tax experience.

  • Industry experience preferred, NA manufacturing compliance and audit defense experience.

  • Ability to translate and communicate complex and nuanced tax law, rules, and concepts to non-tax audiences.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • High level of ethics, integrity, judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented.

  • Very comfortable working in a fast-paced and continually changing environment.
