Ford Motor Company Linux Systems Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

Ford Motor Company’s High Performance Computing environment provides Ford's global user base with capabilities to run complex, resource-intensive computational tasks, including CAE analysis, ADAS simulations, graphics rendering, machine learning model training, and analytics. Ford Motor Company is seeking an expert Linux systems engineer to join their High Performance Computing team.

The selected candidate will be a member of the team responsible for the management of all infrastructure in the environment including parallel filesystems, low-latency network, infrastructure systems, and CPU & GPU compute nodes. This includes developing solutions that enable our internal customers to be successful and working with the team to ensure the environment runs optimally.

This is a hybrid position requiring at least 1-3 days on site per week.

Responsibilities

  • Actively design and implement HPC storage, network, and other infrastructure solutions

  • Install, integrate, and optimize the applications that run in the environment

  • Develop and support automations and scripts (Python, bash, Ansible)

  • Monitor and troubleshoot system failures (occasional on-call)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • Strong storage and server infrastructure knowledge

  • Strong architectural and engineering experience with enterprise Linux environments

  • Experience with an enterprise configuration management tool like Ansible.

  • Strong scripting experience with Python and Bash, and willingness to learn other languages.

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Buildah, Podman)

  • Performs at an extremely high level of technical competence and maturity

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to utilize desktop tools to accelerate communications (Wikis, IM, WebEx, etc.)

  • Seeks out improvements to processes and business offerings

  • Ability to create detailed technical documentation

  • Ability to handle multiple complex projects at one time

Nice to have

  • Strong HPC infrastructure knowledge, e.g., Infiniband, Lustre, GPFS, GPUs, etc.

  • Familiarity with batch workload managers

  • Experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux
