In this role, the Power Electronics Technical Specialist will work with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Digital Manufacturing Services, and Suppliers to successfully develop and launch next-generation power electronics products and processes. Successful candidates will have a proven record of working with cross functional teams, including external partners, in the development and implementation of power electronics assemblies. This role will have direct impact over the design and processing of power electronics assemblies in future Ford products.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead research and development activities for new power electronic manufacturing technologies
Lead feasibility studies to aid validation of manufacturing strategies
Develop and deliver standardized processes and equipment that support global powertrain strategies.
Support the specification, procurement, build, installation and launch of Powertrain Production equipment related to the manufacturing of powertrain power electronics components.
Partner with and manage expectations between cross functional teams to ensure stakeholder engagement and satisfaction with the engineering solutions delivered
Lead, manage, and mentor engineers. Foster an environment where individuals flourish
Develop equipment and process specifications, assess vendor capabilities, and make sourcing recommendations based on data
Provide in depth design for manufacture (DFM) feedback to the Product Development team to ensure that our assembly processes are cost efficient, robust and deliver high quality results
Solve technically complex problems using fundamental, data driven methodologies
Provide technical expertise and support to enable the Operations team to succeed including training, documentation and troubleshooting
Identify and drive corrective actions for process quality and performance issues
Develop "Lessons Learned" from New Model launches and continuously improve future programs.
Evaluate innovative and disruptive emerging processes and technologies for potential application into products.
Assist Ford manufacturing plants, as required, in resolving significant engineering issues and achieving continuous improvement for both new programs and current production.
Provide technical support, as required, to Purchasing with the resolution of power electronics production and quality issues and the development of external suppliers.
Support the Prototype Engineering/Pilot Manufacturing to determine feasible manufacturing solutions and methodology during the early stages of new programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BS/MS/PhD in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics (or equivalent)
Hands-on experience in building/troubleshooting automation systems and acquiring experimental data
Minimum of 5 years experience in an automated manufacturing environment
1+ year experience in a high tech, non-automotive, industry to ensure new ideas are included
Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines of multiple simultaneous projects and challenges
Demonstrated success at planning for and project managing equipment or facility installations
Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for learning systems quickly
Communicate effectively with direct team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
Experience in complex electro-mechanical system design and manufacturing
Experience transitioning automated systems from prototype to production
Experience with 2D & 3D software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Catia)
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Expertise of power electronics component design, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
Working knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles
Working knowledge of statistics (control charts and data collecting and analysis)
Knowledge of electrified powertrain component function.
Experience working in ISO clean room environment manufacturing power electronics
Working knowledge of ESD controls and measures for handling power electronics
Data driven mentality and decision-making process.
