Ford Motor Company Software Development Engineer in Test in Dearborn, Michigan

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team. The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) role involves testing in-vehicle Ford features through a combination of manual and automated testing. The SDET will be responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of in-vehicle features by developing and executing automated and manual test cases and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate test suites reflect the most up-to-date feature design requirements. The role requires a strong understanding of testing methodologies, automation tools, and a focus on delivering high-quality software products for Ford's in-vehicle systems.

Roles and Responsibilities for SDET Position:

  • Work with the latest vehicle technologies to test the end-to-end in-vehicle Ford features.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Owners, Product Managers, Mobile App, cloud SW development teams etc.…) to ensure accurate test suites reflect the most up-to-date feature design requirements.

  • Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts to validate software functionality.

  • Execute automated and Manual tests to identify software defects and ensure quality.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability aspects.

  • Identify opportunities for test automation and recommend improvements to testing processes.

  • Deliver effective verification metrics for the responsible feature(s) and raise timely awareness of critical issues.

  • Take ownership of feature defect creation, management, and resolution with clear and consistent engineering and communication practices.

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field of study

  • 0-3 years of experience Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or others commonly used in test automation.

  • 0-3 years of experience Understanding software testing concepts and methodologies.

  • 0-3 years of experience writing clear and concise test cases.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.

  • Continuous learning and adaptability to new technologies and tools in the testing domain.

Our Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Science or related field.

  • Working knowledge of Electronic Control Modules and Automotive Embedded Systems.

  • Working knowledge of testing and defect management tools, e.g., JIRA, Test Rail, SP

  • Working knowledge of analyzing logs and root cause analysis.

  • Working knowledge of CAN protocol testing, and development is highly desired.

  • Working knowledge of Telematics/ Infotainment background and Mobile App verification.

  • Understanding of Agile development practices.

This position is a range of salary grades GSR5 to GSR8
