Ford Motor Company Supervisor -Modeling Tech Specialist in Dearborn, Michigan

The Model Based Systems Technical Specialist for Platform Systems & Features will be focused on developing and demonstrating methods and processes that will mature systems engineering here at Ford, while working to improve the way we look at systems and software development for innovation. More specifically, this position will require agile thinking when developing tools that will connect complex system modeling to delivery of software for the downstream customers.

  • Participation in process and tool reviews to identify appropriate industry standard Model Based development practices to support feature engineering in the following areas:

  • System architecture & design of embedded and cyber-physical systems

  • System modeling and model design

  • Drive embedded, cloud and app software and hardware development

  • Partner with feature development teams to support development of prototype features using Model Based processes, tools, and skillsets to execute functional partitioning of features:

  • Gathering and documenting business, feature development and testing requirements

  • Translating and architecting feature requirements into executable system designs

  • Developing interfaces between objects/classes

  • Specifying system level requirements

  • Work with software development teams to support traceability of requirements to code through systems engineering artifacts by supporting the Ford auto-coding process to produce hardware agnostic embedded target code

  • Implement Gherkin syntax in support of platform and software development

  • Ensure Model Based systems align with production launch objectives

  • Work with Core Feature System Engineers and external development partners to communicate and coordinate systems/software development & modeling process

  • Ensure Forward Model teams have the necessary tools, skills, and resources to deliver new features

  • Help in representing Ford production and proof of concept systems architectures within Model Based tools

  • Develop and publish best practices, methods, and processes around MBSE

  • Leverage and improve existing methods, procedures and processes using Model Based tools to support the specification and development of vehicle features

  • Support the decomposition of sophisticated systems into reusable components and architectures

  • Support project-based work in areas that demonstrate technologies and empower alignment of production teams

  • Support the integration and use of corporate tools for MBSE into project teams’ workflows

  • Build working demonstrations of common MBSE methods, processes, and best practices

  • Support tool alignment activities in areas such as virtual validation, Ford's Product/Application Lifecycle Management system, GitHub continuous integration, knowledge sharing and AGILE development using tools like JIRA/Rally, Git, VSEM/Polarion, and Jenkins

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or related degree

  • 5+ years of experience working with the development of mechatronic systems (coursework allowed)

  • Experience with SysML, UML, UPDM, and other modeling languages

  • Experience with modeling tools such as Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, Rhapsody System and/or Software editions, MATLAB, or SIMULINK

  • Knowledge of vehicle components functions

  • Able to work flexibly across multiple disciplines.

  • Strong leadership and technical skills to lead cross-functional teams and align stakeholders.

  • The desire to be part of, and contribute to, a team with a proven ability to work cross-functionally with designers, coders, integrators and business teams.

  • Strong listening, written, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical addressees

  • Ambition and the ability to be self-directed

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering preferably in Automotive domain

  • 3+ years of proven working experience in Software engineering

  • 3+ years of work experience in Agile project involvement

  • 2+ years of Prototyping experience

  • 3 years Programming in C / C++ / Python

Extra Credit for Knowledge in the below areas

  • 2 years Code quality tools (42Crunch, SonarQube, CheckMarx, etc…)

  • 2 years GIT hub, Jenkins, Maven, Gradle and CI/CD tools.

  • Experience in Google Automotive SDK.

  • Familiarity with ASPICE, ISO 26262 and SAE standards

  • Familiarity with Domain controller and distributed systems

  • Familiarity with Connected Vehicle distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with embedded automotive development boards (Renesas, NXP etc..).

  • Experience progressing customer use-cases and concepts through design, architecture, development, testing and integration cycles.

  • Automotive domain experience in component-level system design and integration using automotive network technologies (LIN, CAN, Ethernet), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, IPv4/6), in-vehicle embedded telematics technology, body & security electronic systems architecture.

  • Experience in Connected Cars / Automated Driving / Electric Vehicle areas in architecture, design, implementation system integration phases

  • Knowledge of Autosar software stack, domain controller architecture, software defined architecture.

  • Knowledge of communication protocols like MQTT, gRPC, SOME/IP.

  • Hands-on technical role engaged in developing, implementing, and supporting software applications.

  • Knowledge of MISRA coding standards

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or related degree

  • Intensive knowledge and experience using Magic Draw, IBM Rhapsody, Gherkin and/or Enterprise Architect

  • Knowledge and experience with Harmony Deskbook processes

  • Able to simultaneously work on multiple projects while independently handling their time

  • Ability to translate business requirements into features and user stories
