Ford Motor Company Technical Leader – Energy & Thermal Management Systems in Dearborn, Michigan

In this position...

The Energy & Thermal Management Systems Technical Leader will lead the development of energy and thermal management solutions that dramatically improve vehicle efficiency and cost in order to optimize the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of electrified powertrains. This role requires a technical leader with a unique combination of thermal system design experience and vehicle energy management simulation & optimization skills.

What you'll do…

Lead development of energy and thermal management system solutions:

  • Lead thermal and energy management concept/technology development and deliver to vehicle programs

  • Apply model-based system optimization methods to dramatically improve vehicle efficiency and cost

  • Lead design and operating space exploration of novel technologies to provide improved on-road range, reduced energy consumption, improved thermal performance, and increased battery life

Lead transient vehicle modeling and simulation capability development:

  • Develop simulation capability for energy and thermal management, integrating vehicle controls and hardware systems (including propulsion, thermal, and climate systems)

  • Develop processes, tools and methods that encompass both 1D and 3D representations capturing key transient system interactions and enable up-front transient system design & optimization

  • Interface with key R&A and Product Development partners to define and establish model & data gives & gets agreements as well as aligned processes, tools, and methods.

Lead definition and implementation of Ford’s technology roadmap for energy & thermal management:

  • Identify & assess significant new technologies to improve efficiency of current and future Ford vehicles

  • Provide thought leadership on energy management and methods to improve technology development speed

  • Interface with universities and research consortiums and establish priorities for advanced energy & thermal management research projects

You'll have...

  • Masters Degree in mechanical engineering or closely related science discipline

  • Minimum 10 years experience in electrified propulsion and transient vehicle operation, assessing energy management of systems, components, and related controls.

  • 5+ years experience in model-based systems development and related methodologies with application to vehicle propulsion and thermal management systems (including eMachines, power electronics, HV battery, engine, thermal and climate systems in the mechanical, electrical, and thermal domains)

  • 5+ years experience in automotive thermal and climate system design.

  • 5+ years experience with model complex, transient vehicle propulsion and thermal systems using 1D & 3D toolsets to identify and leverage key dynamic system interactions.
