In this position...

This technical expert will be the Directly Responsible Individual (DRIs) to lead cross functional teams through disciplined problem-solving methods, with a focus on Reliability/Robustness Demonstration via appropriate testing methods and analysis techniques, all the way thru to institutionalized Prevent Recurrence.

What you'll do...

  • Lead and support current model component production / design problem solving cross-functional teams, using 8D and/or 6-Sigma Methodologies to improve product reliability.

  • For a given project, this may include all levels of delivery to production and service.

  • Example activities: Structured Problem-Solving, Re-Authoring and Executing Failure Mode Avoidance and Design Verification Activities, Design and Release (Production and Service), Supplier Engagement, Launch, Service/Field Communications, etc.

  • Lead and support new technology / new product designs, using proven Reliability Methodologies, to deliver intended product reliability via the Design Verification (DV) process.

  • Provide Component Reliability Methods and Analysis coaching/guidance/expertise, on projects led by other Team Members.

  • Deliver project presentations to Leaders at all levels on project team progress, accomplishments, conclusions, and lessons learned.

  • Understand upfront design methods, analytical verification, and physical component test plans required to deliver parts that meet life of vehicle performance targets.

  • Speak with confidence and authority, and be humble and collaborative in leading a technical review or debate

  • Teach and mentor other component engineers about failure avoidance strategies and processes

  • Work with full-service suppliers to develop analytical and physical test plans that demonstrate cascaded reliability requirements

You'll have...

  • Experience required for technical specialist consideration - 10 years total experience in Power Units, automatic transmissions, hybrids or axle component design or reliability; with 6 years in specialty of robustness and reliability

  • Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, forging, grinding, and subcomponent assembly

  • Demonstrated Experience in reliability statistical models

  • Experience with reliability modeling software – ReliaSoft, MiniTab, JMP

  • BS degree in Engineering or similar technical field. Master of Engineering preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with structured problem-solving

  • Experience in design and release process, especially Failure Mode Avoidance and Design Verification

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several unique tasks simultaneously

  • Experience Leading Teams and Coaching/Guiding others

  • Ability to develop clear working level documents and management presentations

  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability and willingness to travel to both Ford and supplier domestic and foreign locations

This position is a range of salary grades LL6 .
