Ford Motor Company EDS Integration Engineer in Palo Alto, California

The EDS (Electrical Distribution Systems) Design Engineer will be responsible for vehicle side electrical wire harness design and integration. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of EDS designs for next generation Model e products. Seniority level will be determined based on experience; Junior through Senior Staff Engineer levels will be considered.

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Drive the electrical wiring system design based on functional requirements and electrical network architectures.

  • Work with Model e EDS and Subsystem engineers to establish harness partitioning and complexity strategies to minimize wire count, optimize harness cost, and weight impacts to vehicle line.

  • Review, consume and maintain Device Transmittal information to ensure logical and physical harness designs meet component requirements.

  • Develop vehicle logical and physical electrical schematics in ECAD working with hardware / software / architecture teams to find optimal and innovative solutions for wiring harness integration, own technical issues as they arise and drive them to resolution.

  • Lead wire sizing and terminal selection activities based on the power profile of devices.

  • Review schematics and 2D drawings to ensure supplier has all information required to manufacture our wiring harnesses.

  • Support vehicle and Tier I assembly lines during the vehicle development phases for harness reviews, validate system level change implementation and drive issue resolution to ensure ontime deliveries.

  • Collaborate with systems integration and test engineers to bring-up and troubleshoot electrical test assets such as breadboard or lab-car to validate electrical design functionality.

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing EDS Designs in an automotive or similar industry (ie. Aerospace, Complex Medical Device, etc)

  • 5+ years of experience using 2D & 3D EDS Tooling (ie. Vector Preevision, Mentor Capital, Zuken, etc)

  • 5+ year of experience in a mass production setting launching new products

Preferred Requirements :

  • Strong Electrical Engineering fundamentals

  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and vehicle prototyping

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications

  • Experience with instrumentation of prototype vehicles in a controlled lab environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • n eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

  • Experience deriving cost, manufacturability, reliability and failure modes tradeoffs from based on specific designs
