Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Powertrain Motor Design Engineer is responsible for the generation of EV motor designs, owning design direction from concept through high volume production.

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Lead electric motor mechanical design to develop new motor designs that optimize performance and cost

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electromagnetic, manufacturing and quality teams, to ensure that designs are optimized for production and meet quality standards

  • Manage the design process from concept to production, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget

  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to the electric motor design team

  • Validate quoted costs vs. reality of production, and eliminate supplier waste for optimized cost

  • Help define and drive program schedule based on supplier lead-times

  • Ensure engineering design work and supplier milestones are met

  • Directly contribute to hiring and building out of engineering teams

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing electric motors

  • 3+ years of experience in a factory setting launching new products

  • Familiarity with GD&T and DFM

  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and prototyping powertrain systems

  • Strong engineering fundamentals, and ability to apply broadly to vehicle systems and manufacturing processes

Preferred Requirements:

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive or related high volume manufacturing field

  • High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modelling practices and methodologies

  • Experience in stampings, wire forming, welding and other high-volume processes

  • Working knowledge of HV motor insulation systems and materials

  • FEA and thermal modelling experience

  • Expert in GD&T and DFM, especially for high volume products

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
