Ford Motor Company 3D Process Manager – Physical in Shanghai, China

  • Deliver in-house clay design models and manage outside suppliers to build physical models, ensuring delivery on time and with quality for all assigned Programs/Projects.

  • Development of specialist teams and robust processes within the 3D Process Department to support GPDS 3.0 deliverables.

  • Refinement of the modeling process identifying and implementing efficiencies, and adjusting the process as Digital VR tools and capabilities are further developed.

  • Cultivating a healthy work environment that values respect, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Primary responsibilities will be to lead the Physical Modeling Team, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality models to meet project deadlines and program milestones.

  • Organize teams and allocate appropriate headcounts to support project requirements. Collaboration with Design, Digital Modeling, Design Engineering, and Business Office managers will be crucial in identifying and implementing efficient tools to support design development.

  • Lead modeling team in interpreting Creative Design information. Instructions team in developing scale and full-size clay models from concept to 'A' surfacing.

  • Liaise with Designers, Digital Modeling, and Studio Engineers to gather the necessary information for model development.

  • Manage the allocation of team members to individual projects, ensuring they possess the required skills while adhering to the defined headcount budget.

  • Manage external suppliers necessary to deliver the internal and external physical model workload.

  • Safety is paramount. Take ownership of maintaining a safe environment and implementing safe work practices within the Clay modeling and fabrication areas within the Studio.

  • Compliance with Studio and building safety rules, regulations, and processes is essential to oversee equipment maintenance, repair, and calibration requirements.

  • Work with Safety Specialist to ensure safety compliance. Generate/review Safe Work Procedures, process near-miss forms, and monitor safety risks daily.

  • Manage/monitor chemicals for on-site use. Conduct Occupational Health and Safety Compliance. Manage special waste by modeling processes.

  • Conduct on-site safety/security training for new onboarding employees and contractors.

Criteria (including TMM for PD):

  • In-depth knowledge of Physical modeling and its role in the automotive design process.

  • Managing a large team, including direct reports and contract heads.

  • Rich facility and modeling operation experience.

  • Good milling machine operation, programming, and fabrication capability.

  • Require strong organizational skills, such as planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and tracking work using in-house resources and external suppliers.

  • Effective communication and liaising with Creative Design Leads are crucial.

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills at all levels, problem-solving abilities, and an innovative, proactive, forward-thinking mindset are necessary.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word) is essential.

  • A detailed understanding of the Design Development process is expected.

  • Be able to coordinate and interface with internal function teams and external suppliers to ensure smooth collaboration throughout the design process.

Digital modeling knowledge is preferred.
